BRA SIZE MEASUREMENT

To calculate bra size, you need to take two measurements:

  1. under-bust and
  2. over-bust width.

TIP: Wear an unpadded bra. Stand with relaxed arms and shoulders.

Under-bust measurement

Place the tape measure around your body underneath the bust, holding it straight with the centimetre side facing out.It should be held tight around the body.

Take your measurement immediately after exhaling.

TIP: The tape measure is not elastic but the bra is, so it is essential the tape measure is held firmly around the body when taking measurements.

Over-bust measurement

Keeping the tape measure in the same position on your back move it up loosely over the fullest part of the bust, horizontally and with the centimetre side facing out. You will also need to take this measurement.

How to use our Bra Fitting Chart to determine your bra size:

  1. Find your underbust measurement along the top row to reveal your back size.
  2. Run your fingers down the column to find your over bust measurement.
  3. Move your finger across to the left to reveal your cup size.

What does ABCD mean in bra size?

In bra sizing, the letters ABCD represent cup sizes, which indicate the volume of your breasts relative to your rib cage. The difference between your underbust and overbust measurements is more significant than the size of your breasts alone.

For example, if your overbust measurement is 96-98 centimeters (38-39 inches) and your underbust measurement is 86 centimeters (34 inches), there is a 10-12 centimeter (about 4 inch) difference. This typically corresponds to an A cup size.

Why do I fall out of my bra?

Falling out of your bra often indicates a fit or style issue. It can occur if the cup size is too small, leading to insufficient coverage and support, or if the band size is too loose, causing the bra to shift. Adjusting the straps for a snug fit can also help prevent spillage. The style of the bra matters, as some cuts, like plunge bras, offer less coverage; trying full-coverage or balconette styles might provide better containment.

What type of bra is right for my breast shape?

The shape of your breasts determines which bra is best for you. Regardless of the size and shape of your bust, there's a bra that will provide the perfect fit and support. For more information on how to choose the ideal bra for your breast shape, refer to our guide: '10 Most Common Breast Shapes & Best Bras for Them'.

How do you know if your bra cup is too small?

If your bra cup is too small, there are several signs to look out for that indicate an improper fit:

Spillage: If your breasts spill over the top, sides, or bottom of the cups, it suggests that the cups are not providing adequate coverage and are too small.

Underwire Discomfort: The underwire should sit comfortably against your ribcage. If it digs into your breast tissue or sits on top of it, the cup size may be too small.

Breast Pain or Discomfort: If you experience discomfort, pain, or pressure in your breasts while wearing the bra, it might be due to insufficient space in the cups.

Strap Slippage: Although often related to band size, if the straps keep slipping off your shoulders despite being tightened, it could also be because the cups are too small and not anchoring the bra properly.

How should underwear fit?

Your panties should ideally feel snug without being tight, like a second skin. The crotch should not bunch, the leg openings should be snug but not dig, and the waistband should rest level against your hips.

What if my underwear feels uncomfortable even after measuring correctly?

If your underwear feels uncomfortable even after correct measurement, it could be due to factors other than size. Certain designs might not suit your body type, leading to discomfort. Additionally, opting for more breathable materials could help if the fabric is irritating your skin. If the discomfort continues, trying out different styles may result in a better fit and increased comfort.

How often should I measure my bras and panties size?

You should measure your underwear size at least once a year, especially if you undergo significant changes in your body such as weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or hormonal changes. As your body may change over time, it's important to take regular measurements to ensure you're wearing the correct size for optimal comfort and support. To maintain proper shape and support, it's also recommended to replace bras every six to twelve months.
